The Museum Gardens

Lose yourself

The Whyalla area belongs to the Atriplex-Salicornia region of the Eyre Peninsula, SA. It is dominated by arid plains with low shrubs and woodlands with low hills and ranges. This semi desert environment contains species unique to Eyre Peninsua; and South Australia with a strong influence of Western Australian flora.

The Museum garden is established as a native species garden with some South African, North American and European plants. Among others you can find a Western Myall tree, River Red Gum tree, Lemon Flowered Gum tree, native pines, White Cedar tree, Fig trees, Needlebush, Stirt’s Desert Rose, White Emu bush and many others. The garden is also a home to a variety of birds including sea birds and birds of pray.

When you visit the museum, be sure to stay a while and wander the beautiful grounds. Why not bring a packed lunch and read a book underneath the trees? Or how about a family BBQ?

The garden has even been used for weddings and functions and makes for a wonderful backdrop. Please get in contact with the museum for more information.
